SUNDAY 9 AUGUST

Novena | Day Two

Daily Opening Prayer

Come, Holy Spirit.
Shape us in love that seeks the good of all,
in joy that does not fade amid uncertainty,
and in peace that gives clarity to our listening and discernment.

Teach us patience in our shared journey together,
kindness in our words,
and goodness in the choices set before us.

Ground us in faithfulness to the way of Jesus,
attune us to gentleness in our relationships with others,
and steady us with self-control when we are tempted to rush.

Draw us into a deeper conversion of heart,
renewing what has grown weary,
reorientating what has lost its way,
and opening us again to the life you are bringing forth.
Amen.

Faith That Steps Out

The Gospel today reveals to us that fear does not need to be resolved before discipleship can begin. Peter steps out of the boat while the sea is still unsettled, trusting the voice that calls him forward. Indeed, Christ’s own words, Courage! It’s me! Don’t be afraid”, continue to reach into our fears and anxieties even now with the same presence and power as it did with the Disciples. Likewise with Elijah in today’s first reading, God encounters the prophet not with noise or force, but in a gentle whisper, reminding us that discernment requires both courage and stillness. For our Archdiocese, renewal will emerge through prayerful decisions that resist panic and remain attentive to Christ’s abiding presence. Held by his gaze, may we step forward together in faith, even when the way ahead is uncertain.

Courage! It’s me! Don’t be afraid.
Matthew 14:27

Intention

We ask for courage in our lives during times when the winds rise and the path is unclear. We pray to recognise the Lord’s presence in stillness more than in noise, and to keep our eyes on Him in every storm. May our Eucharistic worship each Sunday especially lead us to an ever deeper trust in Jesus who is our anchor, and our hope.

Our Father… Hail Mary… Glory Be…

Daily Closing Prayer

Holy Spirit, you who move in our hearts and lives,
seal in us the grace we have asked for today.

Bless the work of the Archdiocesan Assembly and the ongoing renewal of our local Church.

Guide our conversations, planning and decisions,
so that all we do may serve the Gospel and make Jesus known and loved.

Shape us into signs of communion and hope,
as we share our gifts for the life of the world.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
