Why Cenacle?

Cenacle was the space or the ‘upper room‘ where Pentecost, the Last Supper and the appearance of the Resurrected Jesus all took place.

This is our vision for Cenacle: The Institute for Synodal Evangelisation. To become a space to accompany and form the faithful to realise a vision for synodal evangelisation in our Church.

Cenacle offers courses that are designed to teach the richness of Scripture and the Catholic traditions to individuals who feel called to deepen their formation and serve more intentionally in the rich life and mission of our Archdiocese.

A Synodal Pathway

Cenacle seeks to offer a formation pathway to animate synodal evangelisation. This pathway is designed for leaders – current or emerging – from all stages of life and ministry experience.

Faith Formation

Adult formation opportunities across parishes, schools and the broader Archdiocesan community, developing an accessible pathway for people to confidently participate in the life and mission of the Church.

Leadership Development

Consolidate and enhance leadership formation opportunities, including providing foundational formation for Instituted Ministries (Lectors, Catechists, Acolytes) as well as a variety of other roles.

Parish Renewal

Deliver structured, intensive experiences that guide parish leaders in developing synodal evangelistion strategies tailored to their local context, especially following Parish Asemblies.

Leadership Development

Consolidate and enhance leadership formation opportunities, including providing foundational formation for Instituted Ministries (Lectors, Catechists, Acolytes) as well as a variety of other roles.

Formation Forums

Free, entry-level gatherings designed to provide accessible and engaging faith formation. Together, we explore some of life’s big questions around faith, mission and discipleship. Designed for anyone curious about the faith, new to it or seeking to deepen their understanding through further formation.

Courses and Modules

Grounded in the vision of synodal evangelisation, our expanding suite of courses aims to form leaders, disciples and communities for mission. From the foundational principles explored in our 12-part modules to specialised modules in governance, liturgy, kerygma, prayer, accompaniment and music, each offering is designed to integrate theological understanding with practical application in parish, ministry and everyday life.

Parish Intensive Workshops

Our Parish Intensive Workshops are designed to help parishes move from maintenance to mission. Through practical formation and facilitated reflection, parish leaders and renewal teams will develop an evangelisation framework, strengthen their vision for renewal, explore their unique parish social profiles and identify concrete next steps for mission in their local context. Together, we will discern how parishes can more effectively accompany people in faith and participate in God’s mission today.

Who are the Cenacle's offerings for?

The offerings are designed for anyone in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn who are seeking to deepen their faith and mission. If you are a parish leader, clergy, catechist, RCIA team member, ministry volunteer, educator or simply curious in the faith and wanting to learn more about synodal evangelisation and the Church’s mission in today’s world, then these are for you.

Do I need any prior theological training or qualifications to get involved?

No. Cenacle welcomes participants from all backgrounds and levels of faith and ministry experience. Whether you are new to faith formation or already serving in our Archdiocese, our programs are designed to be approachable, practical and enriching for any stages.

I am not based in Canberra. Can I still be involved?

Of course! We design our offerings with both our metropolitan and regional parishioners in mind and all content offered by Cenacle can be accessed anywhere and at any time. If you want us to come to your parish and run the offerings locally, get in touch at cenacle@cg.org.au.

How much does it cost to enrol?

Our Formation Forum resources are complimentary and accessible to all. Parish Intensive Workshops are also complementary, but will require additional workshop
